Re-financed The Northern Eagles were formed in 1997, and were renamed Zillmere Eagles in 2005.
In recent years, the club has produced AFL player Danny Dickfos. A number of other players have been drafted from the Zillmere Eagles after playing a handful of games but they have been produced by junior clubs surrounding Zillmere. Players include Jamie Charman, Daniel Pratt, Robert Copeland, Josh Drummond, Ben Warren, Brendan Whitecross, Marcus Allan, Daniel Dzufer, Mitchell Hahn and Brett Backwell.
In October 2008, AFLQ transferred the licence from Zillmere Eagles to neighbouring Aspley as part of an independent review which looked into the best long term option for Australian football in North Brisbane.〔(AFLQ FOOTY AT 16 DIFFERENT VENUES IN 2009 )〕
